2004
Davis Cup Finals -
Dec. 5, 2004
"Bottom line is: we have to get better." That
was Andy Roddick's simple assessment of a weekend in which
the United States, for all their hopes and hype, had been
shown up as beginners on clay. Roddick had just been beaten
6-2, 7-6, 7-6 by Carlos Moya giving Spain an unassailable
3-1 lead.

Davis Cup Finals -
Dec. 4, 2004
A
point. Hurrah! The USA is off and running. Well, not quite,
but Bob and Mike Bryan did their bit to give the team a
fighting chance, spare Patrick McEnroe's blushes and keep
the Davis Cup final alive going into the third day. They
beat Tommy Robredo and Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.
Actually, they did more than beat the Spaniards, they absolutely
walloped them.

Davis Cup Finals -
Dec. 3, 2004
It
is all uphill from here. After the first freezing day of
the Davis Cup final, the United States are trailing Spain
2-0. Their pride is hurt, their tactics have been shown
up and even if Patrick McEnroe can coax a fight-back out
his boys, the best the US can hope for is a desperate decider
in the fifth and final rubber on Sunday afternoon.

Davis Cup Finals -
Dec. 2, 2004
God
is in the detail, or so the expression goes. And if it is
true, then there is every chance that Patrick McEnroe is
about to make an ungodly mess of the Davis Cup final in
Seville. lll
