Playmate Introduces DVD of Tennis Ball Machine Drills

“Drills, Drills, Drills is Indispensable Tool for Teaching Pros”

Playmate Tennis Machines, a leader in the industry for more than 30 years, has released its first DVD of tennis ball machine drills. “Drills, Drills, Drills,” illustrates ways the teaching pro can use a ball machine to his or her best advantage while instructing students. The DVD, hosted by ball machine expert and longtime teaching pro Stan Oley, shows 26 of the most popular and effective drills that can be used with beginning, intermediate and advanced tennis players.

“Drills, Drills, Drills” illustrates ball machine usage for group lessons, doubles play and private lessons. It also discusses – and illustrates – the use of a ball machine to teach the serve – and return of serve – two of the most challenging lessons for many students.

“The DVD is going to be very useful for teaching pros,” says Oley. “It’s a teaching tool for them, in that it shows them how to use a ball machine more effectively. There are people who have the machine, but don’t use it to its full advantage. We hope this DVD will help them learn that ball machines can make them even more effective teachers.”

The ball machine, he adds, does not replace the teaching pro, but is an indispensable aid. Teaching pros are hired for their skill, not for their ability to feed ball after ball to students.

“Ball machines can actually make you a better teacher,” he notes. “For instance, a pro can work on the same side of the net as the student to demonstrate the fundamentals of returning a serve. It’s easier to stand beside a student and give pointers with the machine firing the balls at you than it is to call instructions from the opposite side of the net. You have a much better perspective on what the student is doing correctly or incorrectly, and you save your own arm a lot of wear and tear.”

Special attention on the DVD is paid to targets, to frequency of ball feed, and to position of the machine on the court. Users can easily search the chapters of the DVD to find and review drills pertinent to themselves and their students, or to locate topics of particular interest.

The DVD is produced by the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and is presented in Dolby Digital. It is assembled by Playmate Tennis Machines.

Stan Oley, a tennis teaching pro with nearly two decades of experience, is a familiar presence on the tennis speaking circuit, having presented numerous seminars on teaching in conjunction with a ball machine. This is his first DVD.

“Drills, Drills, Drills” is available directly from Playmate Ball Machines. The price of the DVD is $24.95 and can be ordered directly from Playmate by calling 1-800-776-6770 or from any of Playmate’s authorized sales and service centers.
